March 8th (International Women's Day)
transModa: a Fusion of World Fashion
Boston, MA

Please note that we will be taking a break and there is no show scheduled for 2007.

transModa is Spheres' signature event, held on International Women's Day, to celebrate Boston's rich ethnic make-up and to raise funds for Spheres' year round work. By using the medium of fashion, the show explores world cultures and emphasizes the interplay among different influences.

Over 50 outfits, lent by local refugee and immigrant women and designers, are worn by volunteer models presenting a range of ethnicities, professional backgrounds, ages and shapes.  A Japanese PhD candidate will wear a contemporary Mexican ensemble; a Boston Police Sergeant will don a ceremonial Ghanaian outfit. In the process of putting together the show, area designers, individual clothing lenders, models and volunteers learn from each other and share their stories by talking about the outfits and their cultural significance.
