Our History

Spheres of Exchange is a Boston-based non-profit organization started in 2003 by a committed group of individuals working in the refugee and immigrant human services field. We began under the umbrella of the Refugee Women’s Network to respond to the perceived rise in anti-immigrant sentiment following 9/11.

By showcasing the beauty of Boston diverse ethnic fabric, literally, through our transModa fashion show, we sought to encourage cross-cultural curiousity and connection among Boston’s ethnic groups.

By talking with those working in the human service field, the medical field, the legal profession as well as refugee and immigrant community representatives and volunteers, Spheres has developed a series of monthly workshops that both bring together often isolated colleagues and provide professional development opportunities for “frontline” employees, often refugees and immigrants themselves.

To capitalize on the momentum created, Spheres is in the process of developing our website and a comprehensive Newcomer Net Online Resource Directory in consultation with a number of our local colleagues.
